Lupus and Facial Treatments

First and foremost, it’s important that lupus patients talk to their doctors about getting a facial, and receiving an approval in writing.

Because all clients are different, you want to know what hurts, and what areas have been affected by the lupus. You need to know if there is any organ dysfunction that would contraindicate a facial, or facial massage. Remember to ask what medications the client is taking, such as Prednisone and Vicodin, also, checking their activity/fatigue level is a good good idea.

You will need to adjust your pressure during facial manipulations, as well as work very slowly, and always avoid working on this client during a flare-up, and as heat is contraindicated, no steam or hot towels/Radiofrequency for those clients. Also, avoid excessive extractions, as they may be damaging to fragile skin.
